HOUSTON, TEXAS — Catherine Callaway, AIA, LEED AP, is Kirksey Architecture's new Director of Sustainability and Building Performance. Catherine served as a senior project manager for Kirksey's Community Projects Team for the last five years and has 14 years of experience in the industry.
Catherine's experience as an architect, green building advocate, and community leader will further enhance Kirksey's leadership in high-performance design. Her career began with an internship in 2006 on the Kirksey Eco-Services team, followed by ten years practicing at BNIM, a global leader in sustainability and green practices. Most recently, Catherine joined Kirksey's Community Projects team in 2016. Her dedication and commitment to the industry have garnered multiple awards, including the 2020 National AIA Young Architect Award, 2019 AIA Houston Ben Brewer Award, and the 2019 Texas Society of Architects Honor Award for Young Professional Achievement.
Catherine has served on the boards of the Rice Design Alliance and AIA Houston, where she was President in 2017. She is deeply involved in green building advocacy in the region and has led committees with the AIA, Texas Society of Architects, Rice Design Alliance, and the City of Houston Green Building Resource Center. She has also shared her expertise at conferences and led green building and resiliency tours and workshops.
Design Principal Gary Machicek, AIA, believes Catherine's skill set, experience, and passion are the perfect combination for the role. "Catherine brings a warm and thoughtful approach to our practice," said Machicek, "She will be an excellent ambassador for change."
Catherine will be essential in redefining the role of Kirksey's Director of Sustainability and Building Performance. Her knowledge and expertise further the firm's integration of sustainable practices and building performance analysis, ensuring they are the foundation of design at Kirksey.
