2017 Fall Lineup of Conferences, Conventions & Expos

Kirksey is gearing up for a heavy-hitting conference season this fall with our bags packed and extra business cards printed. Stay tuned for more updates on the following events.

SEPTEMBER

20 - 22: International Lab Design Conference
Madrid, Spain
Kirksey's Science + Technology Practice Leader, Brian Richard, AIA, NCARB, will be speaking on Keeping Economics and Safety at the Forefront: Balancing the Economics and Practicalities of Commercial Building Design and Construction.

28: USGBC High Performance Schools Summit
Houston, Texas
Presented by the USGBC Texas Gulf Coast Region, this summit will bring together local school district leadership, design and engineering professionals to discuss 21st century learning environments and how resiliency plays a part in school design. A panel of architects from Kirksey will be on hand to discuss strategies for achieving high performance schools and share examples of resiliency and cost-saving techniques.

 28 - 29: Construction Owners Association of America (COAA) Texas Fall Workshop
Austin, Texas
Steve Durham, AIA, Kirksey's Collegiate Team Leader, and David McLemore, AIA, ACHA, Kirksey's Healthcare Team Leader, will be in attendance.

 OCTOBER

6 - 8:
TASA/TASB Convention
Dallas, Texas
The Texas Association of School Administrators and the Texas Association of School Boards will be holding their annual convention in Dallas this year to cover all things education-related. Members from Kirksey's PK-12 Education Team will be in attendance.

10 - 12: WfX Conference & Expo
Dallas, Texas
The largest church conference and expo in the country, WfX will be held in Dallas and will feature Kirksey's very own Community Team Leader, Janis Brackett, AIA, who will be speaking with Jason Swiggart, the Cypress Campus Pastor for Houston's First Baptist Church.

12: USGBC Energy Summit 2017
Houston, Texas
An executive forum for building owners/managers, energy and sustainability managers, and other stakeholders focused on energy reduction and smarter technology solutions for buildings. Kirksey’s own Kapil Upadhyaya, ASHRAE, Fitwel Ambassador and LEED AP, along with Alfonso Hernandez, AIA, LEED AP, will be presenting a topic titled “The Deceptive Metric.”

16 - 19: ACUHO-I/APPA Housing Facilities Conference
Atlanta, Georgia
The Association of College and University Housing Officers - International, in partnership with APPA, will feature Kirksey's EcoServices Team Leader and LEED Fellow, Julie Hendricks, AIA, who will be speaking with Jim Walker, Director of Sustainability at the University of Texas, on "The Deceptive Metric."

 20: Performance Huddle Symposium
Houston, Texas
A symposium on building performance modeling and sustainable design practice, the event is a forum for architects, engineers, vendors and students to gain insight into state-of-the-art simulation and CFD applications. Members of Kirksey’s EcoServices Team organized the half-day symposium as part of the IBPSA at the University of Houston.

22 - 24: Society for College and University Planning (SCUP) Southern Regional Conference
New Orleans, Louisiana
The annual conference will be held in New Orleans this year and members from Kirksey's Collegiate and Design Team will be in attendance.

NOVEMBER

3: American Planning Association Annual Conference
Frisco, Texas
This annual conference will explore current planning issues and trends with innovative approaches to community building and will address key challenges presented by our rapidly changing state. Neighborhood vitality, mobility planning, community design and organizational management will all be topics of discussion. A member of Kirksey’s EcoServices Team, Kapil Upadhyaya, will present a topic titled “Transportation and Building Design for Healthy Living.” Two perspectives will be presented that promote healthy communities: investments in public transportation and innovations in building technologies. The presentation will demonstrate how public transportation investments have transformed a community like Phoenix to become more walkable and increased access to local amenities. The second part of the presentation will demonstrate how innovations in building designs in can transform urban living to promote more active lifestyle. The session will use FITWEL as a tool available for developers to facilitate healthy living, and how infrastructure planning is critical to successful implementation at building-level.

7 - 8: Texas Life Science Forum
Houston, Texas
Held at the Bioscience Research Collaborative, the forum is organized by BioHouston and members from Kirksey's Science + Technology Team will be in attendance.

8 - 11: Greenbuild International Expo & Conference
Boston, Massachusetts
Greenbuild provides the opportunity to visit with more than 600 suppliers and top manufacturers of the latest green building equipment, products, services and technology. Kirksey's very own Julie Hendricks, EcoServices Team Leader and LEED Fellow, will present with Colley Hodges on Selling Sustainability: 5 Principles of Persuasion.

9 - 11: Texas Society of Architects Convention & Design Expo
Austin, Texas
The annual convention and design expo will feature four keynote sessions, 33 tours and more than 90 CE sessions. Members of Kirksey's Community, Design and Interiors Team will be in attendance.

11 - 14: Healthcare Design Expo + Conference
Orlando, Florida
Avian Caruso, a member of Kirksey's Healthcare team, will be attending this premier healthcare design show that is devoted to the design of responsibly built environments and how they impact the safety, operation, clinical outcomes and financial success of healthcare facilities.
