Kirksey Participates in 2018 CANstruction Houston

Kirksey and Turner Construction recently participated in this year's CANstruction Competition, benefitting the Houston Food Bank.

This past weekend, the Kirksey-Turner team competed in CANstruction Houston’s Annual Design/Build Competition. The mission of CANstruction Houston, as defined on their website, is, “to produce a unique competition and food drive where Houston area architects, engineers, and construction firms and students build creative and ingenious Cansculptures with canned food and other non-perishable food items. All items are then donated to the Houston Food Bank to benefit the less fortunate throughout the greater Houston area.” This year, our design entry was entitled "Expedition: LEGO of Hunger!" and was constructed with 4,375 cans!

"Just as it is the LEGO® philosophy that ‘good quality play’ enriches a child’s life – and lays the foundation for adulthood, adequate sustenance is also imperative in developing and maintaining physical and mental health. Sometimes this sustenance, which many of us take for granted, is only acquired after exhaustive trials and tribulations by some of our Houstonian Brothers and Sisters. This sculpture is indicative of the journey, or "Expedition", that some members of our Houston family undergo to obtain the simplest of needs for survival, as well as the wall of difficulties they oftentimes encounter."

Thanks to Turner Construction for being great teammates! We look forward to participating again next year.
