  • 27 JANUARY 2017 Astrodome approved for Texas Landmark designation

    The Texas Historical Commission voted Jan. 27 to make the Astrodome a State Antiquities Landmark. The Harris County Commissioners Court on Dec. 20 selected Houston-based Kirksey Architecture for the architecture phase and Houston-based Walter P Moore for the engineering phase of the redevelopment, which would raise the Astrodome floor 30 feet to ground level and create two underground levels with 1,400 parking spaces.

    Last night, finalists, honorees and guests gathered to celebrate a year of outstanding development in Houston at ULI's 10th annual Development of Distinction Awards. The Town Centre Development, including Queensbury Theatre and designed by Kirksey, was selected as a winner in the for-profit category. The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Houston - Richmond/Rosenberg club was a finalist.

    The Urban Land Institute's local chapter announced the winners of hte 10th annual Development of Distinction Awards on January 24. Finalists and winners exemplify best practices in design, construction, economic viability, healthy places, marketing and management. The Moody Rambin Town Centre One development, designed by Kirksey, took home an award in the for-profit category while the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Houston - Richmond/Rosenberg project was selected as a finalist.
