Lone Star College - University Park Breaks Ground on New Center for Science & Innovation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Groundbreaking for new Lone Star College Center for Science & Innovation Building

HOUSTON, TEXAS — The new Center for Science & Innovation broke ground Thursday morning, April 28, on the Lone Star College – University Park campus at the intersection of University Park Campus Drive and Compaq Center Drive West.

Designed by Kirksey Architecture, the facility will provide students with a 21st century learning environment and focus on STEM curriculum.

The 50,000-sf three-story building serves as a campus-defining landmark and celebration of the sciences. Fostering a connection between the existing campus and the proposed campus extension, the new Center for Science & Innovation will attract students, faculty and visitors and will serve as a beacon for high quality education at Lone Star College.

With a north-facing atrium, the building features 12 full laboratories. On each story, four labs are connected to the south by a continuous preparatory area thoughtfully laid out with storage, work tables and space to prepare experiments. Collaborative multi-use spaces give students access to the latest technology as well as individual study spaces. The heavily wooded site includes an outdoor learning classroom, a botany garden, walking trail and interactive rock garden.

Expected to open in the fall of 2017, the building will serve LSC’s growing student population.
