Kirksey was originally hired by the City of Houston to renovate an existing warehouse facility to provide additional office space for the Traffic and Transportation Maintenance department. After evaluating the facility and reviewing program requirements and future expansion needs, Kirksey determined that designing a new building would be more efficient. The new building met the program and budget requirements and was completed eight months ahead of schedule. The 40,000 sf facility includes 15,000 sf of office space for traffic signal operations and central dispatch, 25,000 sf of warehouse space, a shop area for manufacturing traffic signs, street marking equipment, a paint shop, and material storage. The facility also provides parking for 125 fleet vehicles and 150 staff and visitors. With sustainable strategies incorporated into the design, this high-performing facility is LEED Gold certified.
