Four predominant themes govern the design of this 35,000 sf office space for a global management consulting firm in Houston: an ecosystem of different spaces that support activity-based working, a culture of knowledge-sharing, a response to the geometry of the exterior building, and an emphasis on light, air, and wellness.

This interiors project incorporates a variety of spaces that support activity-based working and office-sharing strategies as well as generous employee commons. A unique social stair in the town hall can be transformed as a forum for “TED talk” presentations or configured in multiple ways for different professional and social activities.

Responding to the exterior building’s geometry at 609 Main, the faceted geometries in the space have a strong influence on the floor plate. Multiple ceiling conditions and millwork details reflect the geometrical forms and the location of open work environments at angled corners was intentionally designed to evoke that aesthetic.

Every working space has views to the outside, and an underfloor air system, along with low-emitting materials, protect the indoor air. Sit/stand desks are located at all assigned seating areas for better employee health and wellness. To nurture the company culture, an interchangeable “selfie wall” allows employees to display photos for a more personable touch.
