Kirksey was brought on for the bond-funded $10 million renovation of the 60 year-old, 170,000-sf HISD Luther Burbank Middle School, originally constructed as the Burbank High School in 1949. The renovation scope of work includes the complete replacement of the mechanical and electrical systems, partial replacement of plumbing systems, auditorium renovation, new gymnasium bleachers, classroom renovations, all new flooring and ceilings, restroom renovations, complete exterior window system replacement with energy efficient glazing.

Nicola is an expert in 21st century learning environments and educational design – from pre-K to collegiate. In her role as preK-12 team leader, she has created state-of-the-art public and private schools and developed PlayTheory, a process that engages stakeholders in a fun, collaborative way to gather quantitative and qualitative information that is used during the design phase. With 17 years at Kirksey, her talents and experience are utilized for many community projects as well.
