Originally, Kirksey was commissioned to design a new two-story, 40,000-sf library to replace the existing Harris County Public Library Kingwood Branch Library. Due to City budget cuts, the new library was designed as a 30,000-sf building and revised budget of $6 million. With a collaborative design approach, Kirksey was able to design a library with all the program requirements within budget and at the same time provide a signature building for the community. It serves residents seeking information through traditional print materials, audio-visual materials or thorough the Internet, informational databases and programs. The library is also be a meeting place for organizations and groups throughout northeast Harris County and is a site for video conferencing. It will ultimately house approximately 150,000-175,000 traditional library materials, have more than 80 computers for public use and seat over 200 customers. Construction completed in December 2009.
