Located in the Texas Medical Center (TMC), this new 31-story, mixed-use facility was built in response to an extreme shortage of physician lease space in the Medical Center. Situated on Houston’s Metro light rail line, the new Memorial Hermann Medical Plaza accommodates 500,000 sf of retail, ambulatory surgery and professional office space and stacks 2,500 parking spaces all within a tightly-packed urban site. The building also houses the Roger Clemens Institute for Sports Medicine, the Memorial Hermann Breast Center and the Memorial Hermann Imaging Center. Sky bridges connect the new building to the Hermann Professional Building to its west and the UT Professional Building to its south. Careful planning maximized efficiency of traffic circulation, patient pick-up and drop-off, valet parking, and service and emergency vehicle logistics.
Designers created a distinctive building whose illuminated crown can be seen for miles, changing colors at regular intervals or remaining a fixed color, as the building owner chooses. Completed in January 2007, the Memorial Hermann Medical Plaza anchors the north end of the Med Center campus and is now the tallest building on the TMC skyline.
