After purchasing a 93-acre parcel of land in Fort Bend County, River Pointe Community Church asked Kirksey to design a 32,000 square foot phase-one worship center for 1,400 seats. River Pointe challenged the design team to create an inviting building that would appeal to the existing community of 600 families as well as non-church goers in the area.
The design stems from the church's desire to create a human-scaled village rather than an imposing ecclesiastical campus. The lobby, café, and bookstore open up onto a large plaza, creating an extension of the church's gathering spaces. The administrative wing houses church offices, classroom space and a warming kitchen. The one-story wing will help to keep the large auditorium space beyond from seeming so large as congregates approach from the orchard-inspired parking.
