This March, one of our own will be jet-setting to the Middle East to speak on the topic of safe laboratory architecture and design for chemical management at a global expo known as ARAB LAB.
Kirksey is proud to announce that our very own Science & Technology Team Leader, Brian Richard, AIA, NCARB, will be speaking at the ARAB LAB Expo in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, this March, as part of a Lab Design Symposium sponsored by the Scientific Equipment and Furniture Association (SEFA). The three-day expo is a global event that dominates the lab sector and brings buyers, visitors and industry experts from over 100 countries all under one roof to showcase the latest in technology, equipment and services within the scientific, analytical and laboratory field.
Brian is no stranger to the best in safe and efficient architectural lab design. An Executive Vice President and Science & Technology Team Leader at Kirksey Architecture in Houston, Texas, Brian brings with him more than 2+ million square feet of lab design work in Kirksey’s extensive architectural portfolio, and is a leader in designing global, state-of-the-art, safe and innovative laboratories for the oil and gas and petrochemical industry. Brian’s involvement with SEFA as an Advisory Board Member offered him the opportunity to speak at this international event.
“Code requirements, guidelines and best practices aren’t enough,” said Brian. “Those need to meld with an understanding of the laboratory user’s functional needs, business requirements, and an understanding of how that translates to architectural design and building construction. You need a translator / designer to live in all those worlds at once.”
Brian will present his topic, titled: Safe Chemical Management – Design Strategies for Large Footprint Labs and Campus Users at the Lab Design Symposium, along with other industry experts.
With safety as the number one priority in every lab facility, Brian deals daily with the complexities involved in laboratory facilities where chemical loading and incompatibilities of material or function and people are of a concern. Brian’s proposals keep safety at the forefront, while balancing the economics and practicality of commercial building construction.
