The renovation of GeoSouthern Energy’s Corporate headquarters in the Woodlands represents a very important core value in our profession – relationships. Back in 1982, NRG Exploration (now GeoSouthern Energy) hired Kirksey to develop the masterplan and design its corporate headquarters on a 4 acre site adjacent to The Woodlands’ greenbelt. The original lobby featured a sculptural staircase made of oak with curved elements at the front of the building that housed one of the first Schindler elevators constructed in the Woodlands.

Thirty years later, GeoSouthern Energy reached out to Kirksey to design the renovation and expansion of their headquarters. This renovation project called for redesigning the interior office spaces from the ground up, reusing the existing building structure, expanding the main lobby while preserving features such as the sculptural staircase and elevator, adding a new building wing with 25,000 square feet of office space, replacing the surface parking with a 160 car garage, and adding a 5,000 square foot fitness center amenity all on the same 4 acre site while maximizing green space with native planting and preserving the vegetative preserves.

Everything about the existing building is modernized and much of the interior finishes were refurbished and respected the original design language, including the use of oak paneling, brass accent trims, black granite flooring, and Austin Chalk limestone wall cobbles.

Bob has been with Kirksey since 1982 and is an award-winning architect and Kirksey’s Director of Design. As such, Bob leads the design and planning of the firm’s projects and is a mentor to members of the Design Department. He works closely with institutions, developers, and building owners to determine project feasibility and explore various options to make their projects viable, successful, and beautiful.
