In addition to a recent update to Second Baptist Church’s Fellowship Hall, Kirksey was asked to update and refresh the Jane Elder Building, one of the most public spaces on the Woodway campus. The common area is a significant point of transition where tens of thousands of churchgoers and school children move from one part of the campus to another.
The update includes the conversion of a former bookstore into an indoor play space. The bookstore was integrated into a coffee bar which was expanded and relocated to the existing atrium space, complete with a variety of seating options and a new fountain. The highlight of this newly renovated atrium includes a 9’-0” tall, 64’-0” wide LED screen ribbon wall. The ribbon wall nests 12’-0” off the ground above the coffee bar, banquette seating, and bookstore kiosk. At the edge of the atrium is a newly installed Ministries wall consisting of 10 vertical mounted LED media screens.
The existing bookstore, multipurpose room, and weight room was demolished, and the shell space was transformed into a newly designed bible study classroom and spacious play area, complete with two climbing towers and dozens of custom new play objects.
