The latest phase of expansion at The Emery/Weiner School is complete, delivering enhanced facilities that advance the school's mission to nurture intellect, character, and Jewish identity.
Located on 12 acres in Southwest Houston, the Kirksey-led project team worked with school leaders to program, plan, design, and document a new 90,000-square-foot campus to accommodate up to 700 K-12 students pursuing a pluralistic Jewish college-preparatory education.
"Our friends at The Emery/Weiner School taught us about Tikkun Olam, a concept in Judaism calling on all to improve the world in pursuit of social justice," Kirksey Project Manager and PK-12 Director Jody Sergi explained. "To that end, we were inspired by the Shuk, a crowded and vibrant marketplace where diversity comes together. The Emery/Weiner School is more than a school; it's a social hub to build deeper connections."
The newly developed spaces include a 500-seat auditorium, a two-court gymnasium, dining facilities, a library, a maker space, a high-tech AV room, middle school classrooms, upper school classrooms, and all of the appropriate support spaces. The project's second phase complements existing resources by adding a 10,000-square-foot Fine Arts addition, including a 120-seat Black Box Theater. Together, the improved facilities foster a holistic educational experience that promotes growth through rigorous academics, artistic expression, and a strong community.
Kirksey's design approach highlights the school's commitment to small class sizes, supportive teacher‑student relationships, and flexible, future‑oriented learning environments. Sustainability and adaptable architecture are key components, ensuring that the campus remains vibrant and responsive to changing educational needs. The school is LEED certified.
