New Facility Provides After-School and Summer Programs to Local Youth

RICHMOND, TEXAS — The youth in Richmond and Rosenberg have another reason to celebrate the coming summer months away from school. A brand new Boys & Girls Club has opened its doors to provide fun, enriching programs to all youth ages six to 17. The 21,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility, constructed by Kirksey Architecture and D. E. Harvey Builders, boasts a full-size gymnasium for sports and recreation, a library and learning center, computer lab, kids’ café, art room, game room with billiards and video games, and an exclusive teen room. Club members will also receive free meals and snacks as part of their membership.

“This new Club is Boys & Girls Clubs’ response to the overwhelming need for youth in this community to have access to a safe place with impactful programs that provide opportunity for youth to achieve great futures,” said Kevin Hattery, the president & CEO for Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston. “We are so proud of this new Club and the opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of our Club members and want to express our sincerest appreciation to The George Foundation and The Henderson-Wessendorff Foundation for their generous support of this undertaking.”

In attendance to celebrate the grand opening were Richmond Mayor Evalyn Moore and Rosenberg Mayor Cynthia McConathy as well as representatives from project supporters, including The George Foundation and Henderson-Wessendorff Foundation. Nearly 125 Club members were on hand to celebrate the new Club.

The new Richmond-Rosenberg Club has the capacity to serve 350 children and teens on a daily basis and will provide programs and services Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. during the summer. The Club will also be open every day after school when school resumes in the fall.  Boys & Girls Clubs’ evidence-based programs center on academic achievement, high school graduation and career and college exploration, healthy lifestyles and physical fitness, character and leadership groups and community service projects.  Registration is currently open for a $20 flat membership fee.
