American Bureau of Shipping

Interior Design, Branding & Graphics

Spring, Texas

340,000 sf

Project Features
  • Oceanic & maritime elements integrated
  • Materials reflect those of the shipping industry
  • Custom film patterns and branded graphics

The design is inspired by the 150-year maritime tradition of ABS and elements of oceanic themes and nautical architecture are integrated into every detail. The materials used express the company’s strong history and incorporate the story of the shipping industry. The focus on timeless and simple materials like wood, iron, and steel personify the inherent strength and durability of sea-faring vessels. The architectural expression throughout the space is heavily influenced by the strong form and structural skeletons of large ships and also gives a nod to the origins of traditional boat-making. Additionally, the natural flow and movement of the ocean inspire more organic design components and resulted in an expressive ceiling element that imitates ocean currents.

Throughout the ABS office, maritime themes influence and are integrated into the wayfinding, custom film patterns, super graphics, and art work.
