The Houston Metro Urology project is an addition (28,000 sf) onto an existing cancer treatment clinic. The existing building has a gently curving façade constructed of brick, curtain wall, and metal panels. The new construction responds to the existing building with similar materials and another curve in the opposing direction.
In addition to providing another linear accelerator for the existing clinic, the building will house a new ambulatory surgery center (ASC), and some shell space for medical offices. The ASC has three operating rooms (+\- 400 sf each) and three treatment rooms. The project was very challenging because of the amount of parking that was required, as well as, accommodations for future clinical programs. The client wanted as much flexibility as possible, so the plan layout and infrastructure was designed to accommodate a potential fourth operating room on the first floor and an MRI suite on the second floor. The building lobby was designed to feature custom artwork by one of the surgeons. The finishes will reflect an upscale, hospitality environment.
