Memorial Assistance Ministries (MAM) was established in 1981 to provide help for individuals and families in need and is presently supported by thirty congregations of various denominations in the Houston area. The existing facility became too small and ineffective as the demand for social services grew. The new 28,500 square foot concrete tilt-wall facility, designed by Kirksey, consists of a resale shop, emergency services center, and job bank. New client interview rooms provide more privacy, helping the client to retain personal dignity. Increased square footage for the resale shop lead to increased sales and, combined with a large workroom where donations are processed, aids in being more effective in meeting the needs of the low-income population it serves.
